A Hollywood visual effects producer with strong Vancouver connections has been missing for over a week and his parents fear the worst.
Eric Kohler was last seen leaving the Hydraulx Visual Effects office in Gardena, California. ( NBC Los Angeles)

Eric Kohler, 27, was last seen Nov. 24 leaving the office of Hydraulx Visual Effects in Gardena, California driving a black Range Rover. Police have traced him to a grocery store a few miles away through cell phone pings, and surveillance photos prove his car was there, but soon after his phone was turned off.
Kohler left his wallet, lap top and bag in his office.
"He would never just go away," his mother Sheryl Kohler told ABC News, noting that he was a very social person. "He works so hard at what he does. He's ambitious."
There are no leads and Los Angeles Police say Kohler has no history of going missing but they don't believe foul play is involved.
Kohler splits his time between Gardena and Vancouver's Hydraulx offices on Terminal Avenue. A family friend who spoke to CBC said they are trying to spread the word of his disappearance in Vancouver because of his close connections to the city.
Kohler worked on many big movies including The Avengers, X-Men and World War Z.
He is described as five feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, with straight brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light blue-collared shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes.

Last night we discovered my cousin Taylor Chretien had left without any warning. Our grandma got a call from the boarder asking if he was on any prescription drugs. She briefly talked to him and he said he was okay and was leaving for a bit, which isn't like him at all. Turns out he was going through customs at the Vancouver airport on a plane to Portland, Oregon. No one else has been able to get in contact with him and none of his friends know why he would have left. The last person to hear from him was myself by text message saying "everything's good, phones off now". We are all worried and just want to know that he is safe. If anyone for any reason knows what's going on or why he would have left please contact me, Bailey Chretien or the Abbotsford police department.

   IMG_20151113_000954
A few more details from CBC
A 76-year-old man from New Westminster, B.C., with dementia who had been missing since Thursday was found dead near a SkyTrain station on Monday, say police.
Mathieu Racine's body was found near the 22nd Street SkyTrain Station on Monday afternoon.
"The cause of death at this point isn't suspicious and isn't related to any criminal activity," said New Westminster police spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Scott.
"Certainly with the weather over the weekend — it was cold, it was wet, it was rainy — that may have been a factor."
Scott said officers had been searching for Racine throughout the weekend, adding that the elderly man, who also had glaucoma, had wandered away from his home at least twice before.
The body was found in a fairly open area near the busy station.
The death necessitated that TransLink shut down the bus loop at the station so police could determine if it was a crime scene.

All Sandy Barnet has left now are pictures and painful memories as she marks the 45-year anniversary of her sister’s disappearance.

“I just only hope she’s still alive and doesn’t know how to come back,” said Barnet. Barnet last saw her sister, Helen Claire Frost, in 1970 when the two shared an apartment in Prince George.
For Helen, those were difficult days. In May of that year, the teenager had given birth to a baby girl, but they wouldn’t be together long. “She had a welfare worker and they went to the hospital and talked her into giving the baby up for adoption,” said Sandy, adding that her sister was heartbroken. Five months after giving up her daughter, 17-year-old Helen left her apartment to go for a walk, but never returned.
“About 8:20, October 13, 1970…and she just didn’t come back,” said Sandy.
Sandy said she and her sister would hitchhike along Highway 97, a roadway associated with the Highway of Tears case. Sandy said they were uninterested in waiting for the bus. It was a secret they shared only with each other.
She didn’t believe local police launched an investigation at the time of Helen’s disappearance, so Sandy and a friend looked for her on their own.
“This guy and I did go searching and he found out she had hitchhiked from the Husky in Prince George, heading south. A truck driver told him that,” she said.
That tip has never been verified by police, but Sandy said there’s no evidence to suggest her sister took her own life. While her sister was not known to be involved with drugs or the sex trade, Sandy said Helen’s name should still be added to the list of women who vanished off Highway 97.
“It can’t be ruled out. It cannot be ruled out because she hitchhiked and went the same routes that some of the girls there did.”
Anne Gavin, a friend of Barnet’s and an advocate for missing persons in B.C., thinks someone out there knows something about the case.
“Somebody always knows. You don’t just vanish without a trace. I know there was a TV show in the States, ‘Without A Trace’, but there’s always somebody that knows,” said Gavin.
Barnet has created a Facebook page to help promote the ongoing search for her sister and the niece she’s never met.

Searchers on Vancouver's North Shore have made the tough decision to call off a search for a 52-year-old White Rock, B.C. - Neville Jewell
Neville Jewell
Officials with North Shore Rescue say that after consulting with police and the Provincial Emergency Program, the search for Neville Jewell has ended, unless new information surfaces.
Jewell sent a text to a friend on Sept. 12, saying he was on the rugged Howe Sound Crest Trail between Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver and Lions Bay, north of Vancouver.
A search began after an abandoned car in the Cypress Mountain parking lot was traced to Jewell on Sept. 20., but there was no trace of him.
West Vancouver Police said the inexperienced hiker was carrying few supplies when he set out on the trek that is considered demanding, even for veteran outdoor enthusiasts.
In the hours after the search was suspended, a friend of the Jewell family posted a note on the North Shore Rescue website, thanking searchers for their dedication.

IHIT File: 2014-722 - 2015/09/08 - Langley File: 2014-6060
Body of Nicholas Hannon Recovered - First Degree Murder Charges Secured
19 year old Nicholas Hannon was last seen on February 26th, 2014 by his younger brother.
On February 27, 2014 his abandoned vehicle was recovered in Langley from the 10400 block of McKinnon Crescent. On this date a missing persons investigation ensued by the Langley RCMP.
From the on-set of this investigation there were key factors that raised concerns for investigators and as such the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was engaged early on to offer assistance and liaise with the Langley investigative team throughout.
In mid-April 2014 there was enough evidence to support the theory that Nicholas Hannon had met with foul play and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team assumed conduct of the investigation.  By September
2014 the investigation transitioned to IHIT’s Cold Case Team who has diligently moved forward with this investigation throughout the past year.  Now, 19 months following Nicholas’ disappearance, the investigative journey has yielded three arrests.  We are hopeful that this can now assist the family begin their own journey towards the
healing process.
Following a comprehensive arrest plan over this past long weekend IHIT, with the assistance of many partner agencies, arrested 20 year old Brad Flaherty, 21 year old Connor Campbell and 20 year old Keith Tankard. All three males have been charged with First Degree Murder and will be appearing in Surrey Court at 9:30 am today.
Along with the arrests and charge approval investigators were also able to retrieve Nicholas Hannon’s body.  His remains were located in a heavily wooded area in Morris Valley located in the Mission area.  An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
“We know that Nicholas was at one point acquaintances, if not friends, with the accused men. While we cannot get into the specifics surrounding evidence or motive, it is believed that this homicide was as a result of a conflict which turned violent and deadly,” says Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound.

We would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the many resources that stepped up throughout this investigation.  The complexity was such that a successful resolution would not have been possible without the assistance, dedication and support from our numerous partners.
